What kind of problem solver are you?

By Zack Rosenberg

When you’re running a business, there’s no shortage of questions. Legal, finance, marketing, process, you name it. It can seem at times that it’s never-ending and while you are the one in charge, you are not necessarily a JD, PhD. So what do you do?

As an entrepreneur three years into my company, I’ve realized that the best thing I can do for myself and my staff is to surround myself with people who can help me think through the problems and issues at hand.

Remembering the “other” social network: LinkedIn

By Rachel Herskovitz

If you’re like me, LinkedIn might feel like the obligatory chore of the social networks. I know I need to be there from a professional standpoint, it’s the best way to quickly asses where my current contact list is in their career, and it’s essential when looking for your next move. But beyond using this as the digital version of a Rolodex, I haven’t explored the other aspects of the platform, or used it for its true power.

Well, let me tell you that we are ALL under utilizing LinkedIn. Trust me. I was a lucky attendant at a leadership conference this week and one of the speakers showed us how we COULD be using LinkedIn to unlock the potential of our networks. So, I am distilling that down to five takeways for you.

1) Don’t just replicate your resume of your profile. This is an opportunity for a second sell of yourself - give everyone a look into not

The most common request I get: Help me get a job!

By Zack Rosenberg

You bet! It would be my pleasure. It is the whole reason I started SixDegrees of ZR back in 2008. See back then, the (financial) world was collapsing. Unless you were born around that time, you know exactly what I am referring to.

As I witnessed friend after friend being laid off, I knew I had to act. SO, I took their resume and my rolodex hoping to make matches. WE, as a community, did just that.

Does it feel like Facebook is stalking you?

By Rachel Herskovitz

image

Late last week, Facebook released a statement that they were finally leveraging Atlas, the long thought dead ad-serving technology bought by Microsoft. Instead of using the cookie method to track “users”, Atlas will use a newly coined, “Facebook ID” which can be used to track an actual user across devices. This, however, creates another conundrum, which is – if cookies do go away, and we replace it with a bunch of closed eco-systems to try to give consumers what they actually want, are we any better off as an industry?

NFL is making GREEN over PINK

By Zack Rosenberg

image

It is no secret that the NFL is having some issues. Particularly when it comes to women. No need to rehash, I believe we are all pretty aware.

So as the NFL rolls-out it’s PINK campaign this October to fight Breast Cancer, the timing couldn’t be better for them. Or is it?

SixDegrees is Back!

By Zack Rosenberg

After a 3 year hiatus (yes, it’s been that long), SixDegrees is back online. You (hopefully) are asking yourself, why?

Many of you are probably aware that I have been running DoGoodBuyUs, the first of it’s kind, a marketplace for socially responsible products. Entrepreneurship is unlike anything I have ever experienced before. Saying it’s 24/7 doesn’t do it justice. For this reason, I had to give up on some of my other passions.

So, what happened? Try as we did, and the many successes we had, by August of 2014 it was apparent there wasn’t a path forward. More on this is another blog.

Now I will aim to reacclimate myself in the world of advertising and media, though many other things have changed in my life, as well. For starters, I met and married an amazing girl. Though I would venture a guess that if you are reading this, you probably know Rachel.

This leads me to one the biggest changes that will be coming to this version of SixDegreesofZR. In the past the ZR stood for Zack Rosenberg, now it will stand for Zack and Rachel. Convenient, right?

As a Brand Manager for American Express, she will join me in putting our industry knowledge out there for the world to see, and comment on. After all, this is a community.

What else can you expect? Well, interviews of industry leaders, highlighting some of the best new companies we’ve come across, updates from events, my award-winning once a month newsletter, AND connecting great people with great opportunities.

It’s great to be back. Really! I have to admit I missed you all. Let’s reconnect and promise not to go so long between conversations.
